About This Position

A family is seeking an experienced private chef to establish a lasting relationship at their private island in Exuma, Bahamas. Their previous chef was with them for 15 years, and continuity, character, and communication are central to finding the right replacement. The family enjoys homestyle French and Mediterranean cuisine, and the chef works directly with the principal's wife on menus, with access to a detailed kitchen guide documenting the household's tastes and routines. The role: - Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily throughout family visits - Collaborate closely with the principal's wife on meal planning, accommodating family and guest preferences - Coordinate provisioning through trusted purveyors, with food flown to the island - Arrive 5–6 days before the family to receive and organize provisions and prepare the kitchen - Work alongside the island's established team of about 24 staff, including a head chef and sous chef - Maintain an organized kitchen and high standards of cleanliness and food safety Schedule: - Holiday trial: anticipated family visit December 21 – January 2, arriving 5–6 days prior (dates to be confirmed) - Approximately two-week stays, 2–4 times per year, typically July and Christmas, with additional trips possible when the sons visit with friends - Service seven days per week during family stays, with no scheduled days off while on assignment - Outside agreed commitments, the chef's time is their own, subject to any future retainer terms Household: a couple with three sons; occasional entertaining, with previous visits totaling up to 19 guests. Bahamas work authorization must be arranged before the assignment (roughly 10 days); the island's management team will help facilitate.
